The smaller, rectangular Blocks ‘Control’ units – dubbed Loops and Live – mostly exist to surface/access commands buried in the Noise app. At a minimum, you need one Lightpad. From there, you can optionally connect one or more of the Control Blocks if you have them.
So, you’ve just opened up your new Blocks! Below we have a few simple steps to get you started making music with ease.
Working with an app on your iPhone or iPad, the ROLI Touch Block helps you adjust the expressive behavior of your ROLI Seaboard Block and Lightpad Block. Turn up or turn down the responsiveness of the surface to the Strike, Glide, Slide, Press, and Lift dimensions of touch. The Roli Songmaker Kit includes everything you need to create beats, music, and more with a pair of well-designed iOS apps and a trio of clever modular music-making blocks. The LDM ROLI Blocks Pack is made up of the first five apps from LDM Design for the ROLI Blocks controller. Boing Block is based on a monome device which provides an easy and fun interface for creating polymetric rhythms. It allows for different directional modes for more sequence lengths.
1. Charge your Blocks
The first thing your Block needs after its long sleep in the box is some juice!
- Use the USB cable provided with your Lightpad or Seaboard Block to charge.
- Connect the cable to the Lightpad or Seaboard Block and to a USB3 port on a computer or USB3 charger – if you're using a computer to charge, make sure the computer is also connected to power and awake.
- The Lightpad or Seaboard Block will begin charging, but the LEDs may not light up until the Block is switched on.
- iPhone chargers/adaptors may not charge the Lightpad or Seaboard Block, while iPad chargers work well.
- If you have a Live, Loop or Touch Block, take them out of their box and connect them to Lightpad or Seaboard Block’s DNA ports – these Control Blocks are charged via the magnetic DNA connectors.
2. Install the NOISE app on your mobile device
While your BLOCKS are charging, it’s time to install the NOISE app to make some noise!
- Open up the App Store on your iOS device and search for “NOISE,” or open Google Play on your Google Pixel and search for “NOISE.”
- Install the app on your mobile device – it’s completely free!
- Follow the instructions in the app to create your free NOISE.fm account and use the app. Your NOISE.fm account provides free cloud storage for your songs.
